ST. BONIFACIUS, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team tabbed a 1-0 road victory against Crown College on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-6 (6-2 UMAC) overall.
Opening up the match, both teams took the field ready for action. Fronting a strong offensive force, UNW was able to mark an impressive 16 shots on the half, which outshined CC's two. At the close of the 45:00-minute period, both teams remained scoreless.
As the second half of play took off, Northwestern continued to set the tone. Feeding off the team's momentum,
Emily Goeppinger (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) found the back of the net at the 68:00 minute to slate the only goal of the evening. Teammate
Anna Martinson (Apple Valley, Minn./Homeschool) helped out in the action, as she noted the assist.
Though the Storm gave their best efforts, the Eagles managed to capture a 1-0 victory on the night's competition.
Capping off the contest, Northwestern recorded 32 shots and 16 shots on goal. The stat leaders on the game were Goeppinger (2S / 2SOG / 1G),
