ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team (7-6, 4-2 UMAC) took on Augsburg College Monday evening at Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis. In what was a hard-fought non-conference battle, the Eagles were defeated 3-0 by the Auggies.
Opening with a strong attack, the Auggies were the first to find the back of the net to boost an early 1-0 lead four minutes into play. The home team was then able to tab their second at the 26' minute mark, but UNW kept up the fight as they trailed AC 2-0.
At the close of the first half, Northwestern managed to post 3 shots (2SOG), which fell short to Augsburg's 12 shots (5SOG).
To start the second period, the Eagles put forth their best efforts to keep the Auggies from scoring again, but AC's pressure was just too much to handle. Though Augsburg tapped in their third goal at the 56', Northwestern kept the home team from scoring anymore on the night's contest.
Securing a 3-0 win, the Auggies tallied 27 shots (13SOG) to outshine the Eagles eight shots (5SOG).
Capping off the 90:00-minute competition, UNW's
Samantha Dewey (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) recorded an impressive nine saves, as AC's keeper noted five. The game leaders on the match were
Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy) (2S / 2SOG) and
Abbey Lamfers (Edina, Minn./Edina) (2S / 1SOG).
The women will resume play on Wednesday, October 19th, to face Crown College in St. Bonifacius. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m. Fans can find more information at unweagles.com.
