Emily Goeppinger (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) scored a pair of first half goals and
Josie Monson (Albertville, Minn./Homeschool) grabbed five saves to lead the University of Northwestern women's soccer (1-1) team to a 2-0 victory over Buena Vista (2-3) Friday night at Reynolds Field.
Midway through the first half, Goeppinger launched a 35-yard shot that found the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
Brynn Denniston (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) assisted on the goal. Just over 10 minutes later, Goeppinger struck again, scoring on a cross from
Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ) to put UNW up 2-0.
UNW held the advantage in the shots category, outshooting the Beavers 17-11.
Megan Larsen (Appleton, Wis./Appleton East) fired six shots, while Goeppinger tallied five shots. The Eagles, who were off a week prior to tonight's game, will be back in action tomorrow when they welcome Minnesota-Morris for their UMAC opener. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 2:15 p.m.
