ST. PAUL— The University of Northwestern women's soccer team fell to Augsburg University Tuesday night at Reynolds Field in the season opener for both teams. The Auggies, who are the reigning MIAC champions after securing a program-best 17 wins in 2014, found the back of the net eight times to come away with the 8-0 victory.
The Eagles used a pair of freshman in goal, as Josie Monson (Albertville, Minn./Homeschool) got the start in her first-ever collegiate game. Monson grabbed 10 saves in her debut, while fellow rookie Samantha Dewey (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) tallied seven saves in her 29 minutes of play.
Offensively, newcomers Asia Owens (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) and Megan Larsen (Appleton, Wis./Appleton East) both fired two shots to put pressure on the visiting Auggies.
The Eagles will be off until next Friday (Sept. 11) when Buena Vista travels to St. Paul for a meeting with UNW.
