MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team's 2015 season came to a close on Saturday as the Eagles lost to the College of St. Scholastica 9-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament championship match. UNW put up some tough bouts, but the league finale ultimately went the way of the Saints.
Match ResultsSt. Scholastica led 3-0 after doubles play, but Northwestern's
CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and
Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) made the No. 1 doubles match less than easy for the Saints in what was an 8-6 score in favor of CSS's Josh Stainer and James Mack.
Lloyd nearly went the distance against Stainer in the No. 1 singles match, losing 10-7 in a third set tiebreaker to Stainer, who won the first set 6-0 before Lloyd's 6-2 comeback in the second round. Jacobus was also strong in his No. 2 singles bout, but lost 6-3, 6-4 to Mack.
