Men's Tennis' season ends following UMAC Tournament championship

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team's 2015 season came to a close on Saturday as the Eagles lost to the College of St. Scholastica 9-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament championship match. UNW put up some tough bouts, but the league finale ultimately went the way of the Saints.

Match Results

St. Scholastica led 3-0 after doubles play, but Northwestern's CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) made the No. 1 doubles match less than easy for the Saints in what was an 8-6 score in favor of CSS's Josh Stainer and James Mack.

Lloyd nearly went the distance against Stainer in the No. 1 singles match, losing 10-7 in a third set tiebreaker to Stainer, who won the first set 6-0 before Lloyd's 6-2 comeback in the second round. Jacobus was also strong in his No. 2 singles bout, but lost 6-3, 6-4 to Mack.

UNW's season ends with a 10-14 overall record and a 7-3 record in UMAC play, which was good for a tie for second place in the final league standings.
