MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team didn't need long to defeat Bethany Lutheran College in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament semifinal round on Friday, using a 9-0 win to advance to Saturday's league finale. The Eagles will face the College of St. Scholastica at 1:30 p.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus for the right to be called UMAC Tournament champion.
Match ResultsWhile all three of the doubles matches went Northwestern's way, two of them were in 8-0 fashion at both Nos. 1 and 3.
Rachel Bostrom (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) and
Brooke Lapinski (Chanhassen, Minn./Chanhassen) were 8-3 winners at No. 2 doubles. UNW yielded just three games throughout all six singles matches to solidify the sweep.
In terms of records, the wins bump
Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) up to 136 combined career victories in both singles and doubles play, while
Karen Moe (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South )'s No. 2 singles win over Alicia Kranz was the sophomore's 25th of the year to extend her program record for singles wins in a single year.
