ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team is still in the hunt for its first true home victory of 2015 after falling in a heartbreaker to Bethany Lutheran College on Wednesday afternoon. UNW led 2-1 after doubles play before losing the match to the Vikings in a 5-4 final.

CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and
Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) won their No. 1 doubles match 8-0 before both posted victories in singles action as well. Lloyd didn't give up a game all day, winning his No. 1 singles contest over Bethany Lutheran's Jacob Kubler 6-0, 6-0. Jacobus had to fight for his No. 2 singles victory against the Vikings' Andrew Jelkin, going the distance in a 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) win.
Trevor Grasto (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) and
Joshua Kimball (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) also won in overtime, taking their No. 2 doubles opponents, Brent Heflin and Jelkin, to a 9-8 final score, winning the tie breaker by a 7-5 account. That would wrap up UNW's team points for the day though, as Bethany won all four of the Nos. 3-6 singles contests to post a comeback victory. Heflin was a winner over Grasto, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, while Kimball lost to Dahl 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 4.
The loss drops Northwestern to 3-11 overall on the season with the Eagles falling to 0-3 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. UNW is planning on getting a pair of matches in this Saturday, April 11, as the Eagles are scheduled to host Minnesota Morris at 9 a.m. and Wisconsin-La Crosse at 6:30 p.m. Both contests will be at the Johnson Tennis Complex on Northwestern's campus.
