NEW ULM, Minn. – A rain-shortened match at Martin Luther College didn't stop the University of Northwestern men's tennis team from earning a victory on Tuesday as the Eagles left New Ulm, Minn. with a 5-1 victory.

CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and
Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) defeated Martin Luther's Kris Kuschel and Justin Steinke 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while
Tanner Magruder (Altoona, Wis./Altoona) and
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) were 8-5 winners over Yaffet Gabayehu and Ethan Schultz at No. 3.
Owning a 2-1 lead heading into singles play, Lloyd picked up his No. 1 singles match with the same momentum he carried at the end of his doubles round, defeating Kuschel 6-0, 6-1. Jacobus was also victorious at No. 2 singles, defeating Justin Marshall 6-3, 6-0.
Joshua Kimball (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) finished the day with a 6-3,
6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
Northwestern, now 9-13 overall, finishes its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season slate at 7-3, which seeds the Eagles third in the league's postseason tournament this weekend. UNW will face No. 2 Bethany Lutheran College in Friday's semifinal round, which is played at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
