ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team lost its Saturday match against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) foe College of St. Scholastica at the Johnson Tennis Complex on Saturday. Despite some close matches, the Eagles weren't able to record a point in what concluded as a 9-0 final in the Saints' favor.
Match ResultsThe three doubles matches to start the day were rather convincing for St. Scholastica. However, UNW's No. 3 doubles team of
Tanner Magruder (Altoona, Wis./Altoona) and
Turner Main (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) were close in their bout versus Jordan Lindholm and Trace Combs in an 8-6 finish.
The Eagles' Nos. 1 and 2 singles players –
CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and
Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) – both fell but again were not anywhere close to being swept by their CSS counterparts. Lloyd dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Josh Stainer, while Jacobus lost his match to James Mack, 6-4 and 6-3. Josh Kimball won five games in his No. 4 singles match, but it was downhill from there for the now 8-13 Northwestern squad.
UNW, who is 6-3 in UMAC play, has one more league match remaining on the schedule prior to next weekend's conference tournament at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. Northwestern will head to New Ulm, Minn. on Tuesday, April 28 for a 3 p.m. contest against Martin Luther College.
