ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern men's tennis squad won its second straight match on Friday, claiming a 7-2 victory over Martin Luther College at the Johnson Tennis Complex. UNW will be in action with a pair of league matches on Saturday.
Match ResultsNorthwestern owned a 3-0 lead after the doubles round of matches. The Eagles' Nos. 1 and 2 doubles squads of
CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and
Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) and
Trevor Grasto (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) and
Joshua Kimball (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) didn't have much trouble in their 8-2 and 8-3 victories.
Tanner Magruder (Altoona, Wis./Altoona) and Turner main needed a little more time before defeating the Knights' Ethan Schultz and Yaffet Gabayehu 9-7.
Needing just two points to claim the match, UNW won the first four singles contests before suffereing losses at Nos. 5 and 6 singles.
CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) handed Martin Luther's Kris Kuschel a 6-0, 6-0 loss at No. 1 singles, while Northwestern's
Joshua Kimball (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) wasn't close behind in his No. 3 singles match, winning 6-1, 6-0. Both
Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) and
Tanner Magruder (Altoona, Wis./Altoona) won their Nos. 2 and 4 singles bouts 6-2, 6-1.
Northwestern improves to 6-12 overall and is now 4-2 in UMAC action. A Saturday conference doubleheader awaits the Eagles in Mankato, Minn. with UNW facing Bethany Lutheran College at 11 a.m. and the University of Minnesota Morris at 2 p.m.
