Eagles suffer 9-0 loss in first home match

ST. PAUL – Unfortunately for the University of Northwestern men's tennis team, their Johnson Commplex-opening date with Bethel University on Wednesday didn't go so well as the Eagles lost 9-0 to the Royals.

Match Results

While all three doubles matches went to Bethel, UNW was able to counter with some game wins. The Eagles' No. 2 pair of Trevor Grasto (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) and Joshua Kimball (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) lost to Jakob Bartels and Brett Lizotte 8-6, while Northwestern's No. 1 doubles team of CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North) were 8-5 losers to Matt Schull and Luke Palmquist.

Kimball came the closest to a win in singles play but the Eagles newcomer still suffered a 6-4, 6-2 defeat from Bartels at No. 4. Schull handed Lloyd a 6-0, 6-2 loss at No. 1 singles, while Trevor Grasto (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) and Cole Grasto (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) each got three games off of their singles opponents, Luke Palmquist and Blake Watts.

Now 3-10 on the season, Northwestern returns to its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schedule on Friday, April 10 when Bethany Lutheran College comes to the Eagles' campus for a 4 p.m. match.
