WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. – The University of Northwestern lost its 2015 opener on Friday, losing to Hamline University 7-2 at Lifetime Fitness. Both of the Eagles' points came in singles play.

CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and
Brett Jacobus (Lakeville, Minn. /Lakeville North), both freshmen, lost to Hamline's David Yanagita and Cody Jahrig 8-3. The Pipers won the other two doubles contests in 8-2 and 8-1 fashion.
In singles play, Yanagita won a 7-6, 6-2 decision over Lloyd at No. 1, with the first set going to Yanagita after a 7-1 tiebreaker. Jacobus picked up his first collegiate victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Jacob Duxbury 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) in a come from behind win. UNW's other singles point came at No. 6, where
Tanner Magruder (Altoona, Wis./Altoona) outlasted Hamline's Gabriel Guarin, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) for the first win of his college career.
Northwestern will return to the practice court next week before opening its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schedule against North Central University on Saturday, Feb. 13. That 6 p.m. match will take place at Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis
