ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 loss to the University of St. Thomas on Tuesday night, falling below .500 in the season win-loss tally after three matches played. UNW will have an opportunity to get back to an even record on Friday, Feb. 27, when they play Simpson College.
Match ResultsThe Eagles faced an uphill battle after the three doubles matches, with Northwestern earning just five games throughout the trio of contests that were going on in the Tommies' Anderson Athletic Complex. UNW's No. 1 pair of
CJ Lloyd (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and Josh Kimball were able to gain the most points in any of the three matches as they fell to Brady Radermacher and Luke Elifson 8-3.
Lloyd's No. 1 singles match against Radermacher was the only match that Northwestern had a fight in. The Eagles freshman lost 6-4, 6-3. All five of the other singles bouts went St. Thomas' way with UNW scoring one or no points in each match.
Saturday's match against Simpson will take place at 7 p.m. at the West Hills Fitness and Tennis Center in Owatonna, Minn. It will be Northwestern's final contest before departing for the Tampa, Florida area for the team's annual spring break trip, which includes six matches over seven days.
