ST. PAUL— The University of Northwestern men's soccer team lost in overtime to Crown College 2-1 Wednesday night at Reynolds Field. The Eagles couldn't repeat history, as they came out victorious in overtime over Crown in their last game on September 29th this season.
Mateusz Gralinksi tapped in a goal in the 27th minute off of Crown's goalkeeper putting the Eagles ahead 1-0. Shooting a total of 18 in the first, UNW had 15 more shots than the Storm in the first half leading by one.
Crown scored late in the second half with a goal from Josh Samsa off a corner kick in the 82nd minute. Unable to break the the tie, the teams entered overtime. With four minutes remaining, Ger Jones scored the game winning goal off a penalty kick, bringing the Storm to a 2-1 victory over the Eagles.
Northwestern had 11 shots on goal compared to Crown's four, five of which belonged to UNW's Gralinski.
Northwestern is now ranked fourth in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference with only one regular season game remaining. The Eagles must beat the University of Wisconsin- Superior on Saturday as they travel to Superior, Wisconsin for a 3:15 p.m. game.
