ST. PAUL, Minn.— The University of Northwestern women's basketball team remains undefeated in conference with a 63-52 victory over Martin Luther College.
Jacki Smith (Shoreview, Minn./Concordia Academy) brought the heat with a triple-double, leading the Eagles to their fourth Upper Midwest Athletic Conference victory.
Tiffany Stubbs (Ames, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) started the game off with two shots from downtown just under 2 minutes into the game.
Chanel Madson (Westbrook, Minn./Westbrook-Walnut Grove) came to play with the Eagles' third consecutive three-pointer, putting the Eagles up 9-0. The Knights came back fighting, narrowing their deficit to four with the score at 11-7 with 15 minutes to go.
Jacki Smith (Shoreview, Minn./Concordia Academy) started the game strong with three blocks in the first six minutes of play. Martin Luther kept making slow strides to come from behind, bringing the score to 17-16 with 4:02 left in the half. Smith added another block, building momentum for the Eagles as
Kim Campbell (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) made a fouled shot in the lane with an extra point behind the charity stripe.
Chanel Madson (Westbrook, Minn./Westbrook-Walnut Grove) replicated that play, making her free throw as well, putting the Eagles up 22-16. UNW ended the first period with a 29-16 advantage over Martin Luther.
Northwestern continued to hold control of the game with a 34-22 lead with three minutes into the period. Smith came in with a three, her second of the half, with just under 17 minutes to go. With a MLC timeout called with 12:25 to go, the Purple and Gold led with the score of 43-35. Martin Luther wasn't done fighting as they continued to battle the deficit, bringing it down to only seven with 7:04 on the clock. Stubbs added her third three of the night, putting the Eagles at a 12 point advantage. With 40 seconds on the board, Smith earned a triple-double for Northwestern, ending the night with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 blocks. In the final 30 seconds, MLC made a final trey, but UNW ended with possession bringing the Eagles to a 63-52 victory.

Chanel Madson (Westbrook, Minn./Westbrook-Walnut Grove) with 10 apiece.
Kim Campbell (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) took home five steals and three assists for the evening. On the opposing side, Grace Shultz led with an impressive 20 points, with Erin Schmeling in second with 10.
Northwestern (8-7, 4-0 UMAC) will host Bethany Lutheran College tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. for their annual Hoops Hysteria event at the Ericksen Center. Over 100 prospective students are expected to attend and 90 Bethany Lutheran alumni.
