UNW defense unable to withstand Northwestern (Iowa) in 5-1 loss

Box Score

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – As they continue to fight for their first season win, the women's soccer team lost 5-1 to Northwestern College (Iowa) on Saturday night. Regardless of the early eagle goal from Anna Hitterdal (St. Louis Park, Minn./Southwest Christian), the Red Raiders offense didn't let up.

Freshman Anna Hitterdal (St. Louis Park, Minn./Southwest Christian) made the Eagles' first goal of the season off of a corner kick pass from Kirsten Aderton (Rochester, Minn./Schaeffer Academy) in the 17th minute. Northwestern (Iowa) quickly responded with two more goals in the next 10 minutes. Only behind by one, the Eagles went into the half with a 2-1 deficit.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, much of the same offensive tempo continued in favor of the home team. With 24 shots on goal, the home team's offense outworked the visitor's eight shots. Red Raiders' Tyler Farr was a prominent offensive threat for the Eagles with three goals for the night. With the home team's momentum in the second period, the Purple and Gold were unable to make the comeback.

Northwestern (0-3) will begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on September 19th at 2 p.m. as they host their first game on the new turf against Northland College. The Eagles will host again on September 20th at 12 p.m. as they take on St. Scholastica at Reynolds Field.
