Morningside College outlasts Eagles in 5-0 contest

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The University of Northwestern couldn't hold off Morningside College's persistent offense in a 5-0 loss on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles struggled to execute with another quiet game offensively. With a single shot on goal from Roxanne Holmberg (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti), the Eagles were out scored in the first half allowing three Mustang goals.

The second half didn't look much brighter for Northwestern with Morningside scoring two more goals. Eagle goalkeeper Miranda Carda (Andover, Minn./Andover) tallied nine saves among 14 Morningside shots of goal. Offensively, the away team on the scoreboard posted a shot total of two, outlasted by Morningside's 27.

The Purple and Gold continue to fight for their first win with tough competition in the first stretch of the season.

Northwestern (0-2) will play again tomorrow night at Northwestern College (Iowa) at 7:15 p.m. The Eagles will host their first game at Reynolds Field against Northland College on September 19th at 2 p.m.
