Box Score ST. PAUL— In the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opening weekend, the University of Northwestern women's soccer team was unable to pull out the win in a 3-0 loss to the College of St. Scholastica.
Both teams remained scoreless in the first half on Saturday afternoon's game at Reynolds Field.
Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ) barely missed a header 12 minutes into the game with a shot just inches from the left goal post. The Eagles backfield withstood five Scholastica shots in the first half.
It didn't take long for the Saints to take action in the second period with a goal from Jalyn Britton in the 47th minute. Two additional CSS goals followed, adding to their second half momentum.
The Eagles were unable to reciprocate the visitors' offense and remained scoreless in the 90 minutes of play. Defensively,
Miranda Carda (Andover, Minn./Andover) tallied 17 saves with a .850 percentage for the afternoon.
Northwestern (1-4 overall, 1-1 UMAC) will play at Hamline University for a nonconference game on Tuesday night at 4 p.m. The Eagles will hit the road next weekend to resume conference play as they take on Minnesota Morris on Friday at 2 p.m. and Martin Luther on Saturday at 12 p.m.
