Box Score 2 ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern won its third consecutive match on Saturday morning, defeating Crown College 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-13) on its home court in the Ericksen Center before rounding out the weekend with a 3-0 win at North Central University in the night cap.
Everyone wearing a UNW jersey saw court time as Northwestern had little difficulty with the visiting Storm. Northwestern had at least 16 kills in each of the three sets and used a .457 first round hitting performance to finish at .343 for the match. Crown was only able to muster 16 kills throughout the morning compared to the Eagles' 49. UNW scored the first eight points in the initial set while firing off a quick first seven points in Set 3.
Cari Miller (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) paced Northwestern with 14 kills on 19 attempts for a .632 personal attacking rate.
Hallie Mueth (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) added eight kills as nine different UNW players recorded at least one kill in the match.
Lizzy Jonas (Neenah, Wis./Valley Christian ) had 33 assists for the Eagles, with both
Meg Gratopp (Lincoln, Neb./Norris) and
Keturah Marxhausen (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis) also putting time in at the setter position.
Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork), who put down 22 kills on Friday night against Minnesota Morris, dressed as the team's libero on Saturday, finishing the morning with 21 digs.
Northwestern had little difficulty with the Rams from North Central as the Eagles were in and out of the CLC gym with a 25-13, 25-10, 25-8 victory. Much like the morning, every healthy body saw at least one set of action, collectively hitting .521 as a team with 15 kills in each round. While Jonas paced UNW with 36 assists,
Lydia Palkert (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian) had 14 kills on 18 attempts while committing just one error. Peterson was once again in the libero uniform, using 12 digs to setup the UNW offense and limit North Central to a .026 hitting percentage.
UNW will gladly take a six-day break from matches before resuming its schedule next Friday, Sept. 25, at Northland College to kickoff another 24 hours of UMAC volleyball. Friday's first serve in Ashland, Wis. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
