FRIDLEY, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match on Tuesday night, defeating North Central University 9-0 to sweep the Rams in their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matches this year. The victory improved the Eagles' overall record to 5-10 while boosting the team's league record to 3-1.
Match ResultsNorthwestern took all three doubles matches, with two of the three coming in rather easy fashion. UNW's No. 3 doubles team of
Trevor Grasto (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) and
Cole Grasto (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) swept Joshua Lee and Chris Karow, while
Agassi Mila (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) and
Levi Busse (Amery, Wis./Amery) took care of North Central's Ian Bird and Alex Bird 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles match.
UNW was equally successful in singles play, with five of Northwestern's six players yielding three or less games to their Rams opponent.
Jimmy Ekman (River Falls, Wis./River Falls), fresh off of being named the UMAC Player of the Week on Tuesday morning, defeated Fabian Tunberg 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match, with the Eagles'
Nathan Elias (St. Anthony Village, Minn. /St. Anthony) also finding success against Karow 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles bout.
Northwestern will be back on the court in less than 24 hours' time as the Eagles are set to host Saint Mary's University at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, again at Lifetime Fitness in Fridley. Then UNW will return to UMAC action with a road contest at Martin Luther College on Thursday, April 10 in New Ulm, Minn.
