NEW ULM, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's tennis team's consecutive wins streak improved to eight on Thursday with a 9-0 victory over Martin Luther College. The last six of those Ws have come in 9-0 fashion, ultimately improving the Eagles' overall record to 13-4 and the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) mark to 6-0.
Match ResultsThursday's three doubles matches with Northwestern giving up a grand total of four games to the Knights, with the Eagles' Nos. 1 and 2 teams yielding just one game apiece to give UNW an easy 3-0 lead. Three of the six singles matches were 6-0, 6-0 in Northwestern's favor, with
Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing),
Karen Moe (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South ) and
Tina Matetich (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) all sweeping their opponents.
Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Holly Marquardt in the No. 3 singles match in a near-sweep for the Eagles junior.
After a day off on Friday, Northwestern will be back in action on Saturday as the Eagles square off against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and UW-Lacrosse, both in La Crosse, Wis.
