Women's Tennis wins eight of nine matches against Concordia-Moorhead

FARGO, N.D. – The Northwestern women's tennis team resumed play in the northern half of the country on Saturday, defeating Concordia College-Moorhead 8-1 in the Eagles' first match since returning from spring break in Tampa, Fla. The Cobbers, who spotted UNW two points right out of the gate, grabbed just the No. 4 singles match.

Full match results from Saturday were not immediately available.

Northwestern won both the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles contests in 8-4 and 8-1 fashion. With Concordia playing with only a five-member roster, the Cobbers were not able to play a No. 3 doubles team, effectively handing the Eagles that point along with the No. 6 singles point.

Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing), Karen Moe (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South ) and Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) were all victorious in the Nos. 1-3 singles matches. Courtney Lawler faced the Cobbers' Morgan Sawatzke in Concordia's lone victory at No. 4 before Rachel Bostrom (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) finished out the day with a win at No. 5 singles.

Now 6-4 in its 2014 campaign, Northwestern begins its Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schedule in one week when the Eagles play both St. Scholastica and North Central (Minn.) at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville in 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. starts on March 29.
