Box Score COON RAPIDS, Minn. – The University of Northwestern triumphs over North Central University in a 4-0 victory Thursday afternoon. With three early goals, the Eagles took control of the game early on and carried momentum for the 90 minutes of play.
Anna Hitterdal (St. Louis Park, Minn./Southwest Christian) was the first to score for the Eagles, assisted by
Jenna Powers (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) in the 8th minute. Just eight minutes later
Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ) knocked in the second, giving Northwestern an early lead over the Rams. In the 31st minute, the Purple and Gold's
Allie Franzen (Andover, Minn./Legacy Christian ) scored, putting the Eagles ahead 3-0 going into half.
The visitors kept the momentum going into the second half, holding off the home team's offense. With seven minutes left on the clock,
Emily Goeppinger (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) made the final goal of the afternoon, thanks to great placement by Hitterdal. As time ran out, North Central couldn't respond the the Eagles' powerful momentum ending in a 4-0 shutout for UNW.
Overall, UNW out-shot NCU 40-3, with 22 shots on goal versus the four shots from the Rams. Defensively, goalkeeper
Miranda Carda (Andover, Minn./Andover) earned the shut-out for the Eagles.
Northwestern (3-8, 3-4 UMAC) will face North Central for the second time this week as the Eagles host the Rams at 7:15 p.m Saturday night for homecoming. Next weekend conference play will continue at home as they take on Martin Luther College on Friday at 3:15 p.m. and the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday at 6:15 p.m.
