Eagle volleyball wins in 3 over Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern snags another 3-0 win over Bethany Lutheran Saturday afternoon with set scores of 25-14, 25-10, and 25-17.

The start of the first set began with the Eagles and Vikings trading possession about every other point until UNW began to pull ahead after the 10-point mark. Using that momentum, the Eagles soared to a 25-14 finish thanks to two four-point runs after the 14th point for Northwestern.

Northwestern continued to use runs to their advantage with a 9-2 lead in the second set thanks to a seven point run right out of the gate. UNW continued to fire with two additional runs of four and a final run of five, bringing the Eagles to a 25-10 win thanks to the set-winning ace from Lizzy Potratz (Oshkosh, Wis./Valley Christian ). Set 3 began with the Vikings putting the first two points on the board but the Purple and Gold bounced back with an eight-point run putting the Eagles up 8-2. Bethany Lutheran wasn't done fighting as they slowly narrowed the margin to 24-18, but it wasn't quite enough to steal the set from the home team, ending the match 3-0.

Northwestern finished the afternoon with a .320 hitting percentage, with kills across the board, including Lindsey Peterson (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) leading with 11.
With 19 digs, Lizzy Potratz (Oshkosh, Wis./Valley Christian ) led the Eagles in digs. Hallie Mueth (Sheffield, Iowa/West Fork) and Shanay Gonder (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) led in blocks with four a piece.

Jessi Jurries led the Vikings defense with 17 digs for the afternoon, followed by Emily Franzen with 11.

Northwestern (12-6, 7-0 UMAC) will host the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tuesday night in the Ericksen Center at 7 p.m. Next weekend the Eagles will host homecoming games on Friday at 7 p.m. against Northland College and Saturday at 12 p.m. against St. Scholastica followed by the last home match at 6 p.m. against North Central University.
