With exciting last minute goal, the Eagles claim 3-2 victory over Bethany Lutheran

ST. PAUL— In a close conference match-up, the University of Northwestern women's soccer team stole the 3-2 victory from Bethany Lutheran College. Katie Meinke (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian) secured the win in the last minute of Friday night's game at Reynolds Field.

Nicole Moldstad was the first to put the Vikings on the board 26 minutes into the game, assisted by Bridget Hennen. The Eagles scored just four minutes later when senior Sarah Scinto (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) made a beautiful header goal after Abbey Lamfers (Richfield, Minn./Edina High Scool) crossed a perfect ball from the left side. With no team breaking the tie, the squads went into halftime with a score of one a piece.

Four minutes into the second half, Anna Rouse attempted a header, but Eagle goalkeeper Amy Nyquist (Elk River, Minn./Elk River ) saved the ball. In the 68th minute, Kirsten Aderton (Rochester, Minn./Schaeffer Academy) crossed the ball from the right side with Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ) executing the goal, putting the Eagles up 2-1. Just one minute later, the Vikings responded with a goal themselves thanks to Moldstad tallying her second goal of the night. The goal was shot from 20 yards back and rocketed into the back of the net. With excitement building in the last few minutes of play, Katie Meinke (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian) saved the game from going into overtime by executing a rebounded shot in the last minute of play. Meinke's goal was assisted by Abbey Lamfers (Richfield, Minn./Edina High Scool) and Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ). With the most jaw-dropping game finish of the season, the Eagles took the dramatic 3-2 victory over Bethany Lutheran.

Defensively, Amy Nyquist (Elk River, Minn./Elk River ) racked five saves today for the Eagles, who are missing their starting goalkeeper this weekend. In comparison, the Vikings' Megan Zeller tallied 10 saves. The Purple and Gold out-shot the visitors 22-9 with six more shots on goal.

Northwestern (5-13 Overall, 5-8 UMAC), will host Crown College tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. for their last regular season home game.
