Eagles end season with 5-2 victory over Crown College

ST. PAUL, Minn.— The University of Northwestern-St. Paul end their season in a 5-2 victory over Crown College on Saturday night at Reynolds Field.

Abbey Lamfers (Richfield, Minn./Edina High Scool) stole the show with three consecutive goals for the Eagles in the first half. First of which happened 15 minutes into the game off of a rebound as Lamfers fired the ball into the back of the goal from 15 yards back. Her second goal of the night was with 24:12 left on the clock as she fired the ball over the reach of goalkeeper Hillary Brondsema. Lamfers final goal of the first half was with 6 minutes remaining when she took advantage of the ball from 20 yards back, executing a rocket into the back of the goal. Crown finally scored with a penalty kick as Megan Wright shot a far right goal against goalkeeper Annette Scheil (Blaine, Minn./Legacy Christian ). As if three goals weren't enough, freshman Monika Kuznia (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) took home a goal of her own with two minutes to spare, thanks to an assist by Sarah Scinto (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) from the left side. Going into halftime, the Storm trailed the home team 4-1.

Five minutes into the second period Crowns' Mary Voss added another point to the Crown scoreboard as the Eagle defense was flustered, with Voss scoring right down the middle with a grounder goal. Another grounder was made from the opposing team, with UNW's Kirsten Aderton (Rochester, Minn./Schaeffer Academy) sending a cross from the left as Sarah Scinto (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) tapped in the goal from inside the box with 27 minutes remaining.

Defensively, Annette Scheil (Blaine, Minn./Legacy Christian ), new to the Eagle goal, tallied three saves, compared to Hillary Brondsema's 11 saves. Northwestern out-shot the visitors 28-11, with 11 more shots on goal.

Despite the result of the game, both the Eagles (6-13 Overall, 6-8 UMAM) and Storm (4-14-1 Overall, 2-11 UMAC) fell short in making the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference playoffs.  Seven seniors ended their career tonight at Reynolds Field, being the first team to enjoy the home turf. With two victories this weekend in their last home stand, the women's soccer team ended on a great note.
