ASHLAND, Wis. — The University of Northwestern couldn't hold off Northland College in a 2-0 loss Saturday afternoon in a crucial Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game for the Eagles.
The Eagles continued to capitalize in goals on the road. In the first half, the Lumberjills' Madeleine Wieland scored her first goal of the day in the 26th minute of play. Wieland later scored again in the last 12 minutes of the game with an assist by Laura Rethmann. UNW failed to execute offensively despite out-shooting NC 13-11 with two more shots on goal. However, Northland capitalized on their few shots on goal, concluding the game with a 2-0 victory over the visiting team.
New to the goal, freshman
Monika Kuznia (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) played for the Eagles racking three saves in her first collegiate game as a goalkeeper. Lumberjills' Madeleine Wieland now has a total of 16 goals for Northland, leading her team with 32 points as a sophomore.
Northwestern (4-13 Overall, 4-8 UMAC) will host their last home-stand of the season next weekend at Reynolds Field. The Eagles will face Bethany Lutheran College on Friday at 3:15p.m. and Crown College on Saturday at 6:15p.m.
