DULUTH, Minn. — The University of Northwestern fell 4-1 to the College of St. Scholastica Friday afternoon. The visiting team couldn't pull the win from Saints who are ranked second in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
The first half started with a quiet 32 minute before Kelsey Kehtel notched her first goal of the night, assisted by Casey Mitchell through a scramble inside the box. Going into half with a 1-0 deficit, the Eagles were hopeful to make a comeback. However, Kelsey Kehtel made it hard on the Purple and Gold with two consecutive goals in the 62nd and 75th minutes of the second period.
Katie Meinke (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian) responded with her first goal of the season, assisted by freshman
Anna Hitterdal (St. Louis Park, Minn./Southwest Christian). Meinke shot high into the goal with 13 minutes left in the game putting the Eagles on goal of the scoreboard. However, Scholastica's Leah Hamm grew their lead with the last goal of the game, firing a shot over goalkeeper
Miranda Carda (Andover, Minn./Andover)'s reach.
Defensively, Carda took home nine saves for the Eagles despite the four goals allowed. The Saints outshot Northwestern 23-3 resulting in the 4-1 victory on their home turf.
Northwestern (4-12 Overall, 4-7 UMAC) will continue to seek another conference win as they play in Ashland, Wisconsin at Northland College tomorrow afternoon at 2:15 p.m.
