Box Score ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team secured their homecoming win against North Central University. With five goals across the board, the Eagles earned the shutout over the Rams Saturday night.
Northwestern took charge quick into the first half with an early goal from
Sarah Scinto (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount), assisted by
Abbey Lamfers (Richfield, Minn./Edina High Scool), seven minutes into the game. Lamfers wanted a goal of her own and scored with 27:49 on the clock, thanks to an assist by
Emily Goeppinger (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield). Sophomore
Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ) scored her first goal of the night with eight minutes left remaining in the half. With 24 shots in the first half alone, UNW led the Rams 3-0 going into halftime.
Skarin stole possession from North Central from seven yards out and knocked a goal in deep left making it her second of the night in the 46th minute. Adding to the home team momentum,
Kirsten Aderton (Rochester, Minn./Schaeffer Academy) crossed a ball from the right to
Jordan Skarin (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo ) who pulled out a hat trick in the 52nd minute. From 25 yards back,
Allie Franzen (Andover, Minn./Legacy Christian ) took a hard shot, but hit the crossbar with 16:50 remaining in the half. Unable to respond to the Eagles strong offensive push, the Rams fell 5-0 to the home team.
Northwestern ended the night with 39 shots, 21 of them on goal, tallying 16 saves for North Central's goalkeeper Shelby Norman.
Miranda Carda (Andover, Minn./Andover) had a quiet night in goal for the Eagles as North Central had zero shots on goal.
Northwestern (4-8 overall, 4-4 UMAC) will host Martin Luther College at 5 p.m. Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. and the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday at 4 p.m.
