Women's Golf wins Mid Country Bank Classic

WACONIA, Minn. – The University of Northwestern women's golf squad resumed its winning ways on Monday as it took first place in the four-team Mid Country Bank Classic hosted by Crown College. The Eagles' score of 397 was five better than second place Bethany Lutheran College.

The victory is Northwestern's fifth this year in a total of seven meets played.

Final Results

Playing without ace Sarah Poppema (Embarrass, Minn./Babbitt Embarrass/Vermillion Comm. College), two of UNW's scores were under 100 as Samantha Davis (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) and Barbara Murray (Chisago City, Minn./Chisago Lakes) posted a 97 and 98 as they exited the par 72, 5,803-yard course at Island View Golf Club. Naomi Black (Darlington, Wis./Darlington) was good for an even 100 on the day, while Laura Gaffney (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway) rounded out the Eagles' team submission at 102.

Bethany Lutheran's Chelsea Green posted a 91 to win medalist honors. The Vikings took second with a score of 402, followed by 465 strokes from Crown and 537 from Northland College. North Central University was represented by two individuals in the meet but was unable to submit a team score.

Monday's event was the Eagles' final meet before next week's Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament, which will be played at Trappers Turn Golf Course in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
