Eagles finish behind Concordia in seven-team Cougar Invitational

BENSON, Minn. – Coming off a string of three consecutive victories, the University of Northwestern women's golf team took third place in the seven-team University of Minnesota Morris Cougar Invitational on Thursday, finishing with a team score of 400. A pair of Concordia College-Moorhead teams bested the Eagles, with the Cobbers' A team winning the meet with a team score of 347.

Final Results

Sarah Poppema (Embarrass, Minn./Babbitt Embarrass/Vermillion Comm. College) was the lone UNW player to break 100 as her 22-over-par score of 94 was good for 10th in the individual listing. Sammy Davis and Barbara Murray (Chisago City, Minn./Chisago Lakes) followed Poppema with a 100 and 102, respectively at 28 and 30 over par. Naomi Black (Darlington, Wis./Darlington) rounded out the Eagles' team submission as her 104 was 32 strokes over par at the 5,994-yard Benson Golf Club.

Following the two Concordia teams and Northwestern in the team standings was Bethany Lutheran (433), Morris (438), Crown College (501) and Northland College (585). Individuals from Presentation College and Valley City State University each participated in the game but those schools did not submit a team score.

Next up for Northwestern is the Crown Invitational on Monday, September 23 at Island View Golf Club in Waconia, Minn. Tee times for that meet will start at 2 p.m.
