MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Northwestern women's golf team is on a roll after having won its third straight meet on Monday in its own invitational at Gross National Golf Course. The Eagles came into the clubhouse with a team score of 394, 20 strokes better than their closest competitor.
Final Results
UNW had three scores in the 90s from the 5,800-yard, par 71 course with
Naomi Black (Darlington, Wis./Darlington) leading the way with a 93, a 22-over-par score that took second place in the individual competition behind the University of Minnesota Morris' Abby Fragodt, who shot an 86.
Sarah Poppema (Embarrass, Minn./Babbitt Embarrass/Vermillion Comm. College) and
Samantha Davis (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) were one stroke apart in their 98 and 99 for Northwestern, who also received a 104 from
Laura Gaffney (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway) to round out the team submission.
Morris came in second on the day with a 414, followed by Bethany Lutheran College's 419. Crown College took fourth place (500) with Northland College rounding out the five-team field at 548. North Central University had two individual entries on the day but did not submit a team score.
After the one-day home stint, Northwestern will head back out on the road again on Thursday of this week as the Eagles compete against a similar field in the Cougar Invitational hosted by Minnesota Morris at Benson Golf Club in Benson, Minn.
