MINNEAPOLIS –Playing in its first meet of the 2013-14 season, the University of Northwestern women's golf team carded a team score of 379 on Friday afternoon at Gross National Golf Course. While the Eagles' foe in North Central University was unable to fill a complete squad, UNW still played with the regular five competitors, two of which went below 90.

Sarah Poppema (Embarrass, Minn./Babbitt Embarrass/Vermillion Comm. College) finished the day with a 16-over-par score of 87, two strokes ahead of teammate Naomi Black (Darlington, Wis./Darlington), who carded an 89. Samantha Davis (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) wrapped up her 18-hole round with a 100, while Laura Gaffney (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway) finished the Eagles' four-player team submission with a 103.
Barbara Murray (Chisago City, Minn./Chisago Lakes) also saw action for UNW, scoring a 117 on the par 71, 5,300-yard course.
Northwestern will be back in action in less than 24 hours as the Eagles participate in the Bethel University Triangular with the Royals and Augsburg College on Saturday. Tee times begin shortly after 10 a.m. at Sawmill Golf Club in Stillwater, Minn.
