Match Results
The three doubles matches all went Northwestern's way with the No. 2 pair of
Jimmy Ekman (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) and
Agassi Mila (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) leading the pack as they won their bout 8-2 over William Scoggins and Jordan Bence. The Eagles' top duo of
David Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and
Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) also found rather quick success, defeating Paul Koester and Scott Henrich 8-3. On Court 10 at Baseline,
Philip Gudim (Becker, Minn./Home School) and
Levi Busse (Amery, Wis./Amery) then pulled out an 8-4 victory to sweep doubles play.
Needing just two points to win the match and advance to Saturday's conference tournament championship, Northwestern received a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory from Mila at No. 4 singles before Ekman's 6-3, 6-2 win against Scoggins sealed the deal for the Eagles. Blancke didn't need long to defeat Koester (6-2, 6-1) while Busse was also victorious at the No. 6 spot with a 6-2, 6-3 advantage against Micah Koelpin. That left just Gudim and Knight to play, matches that didn't take too long. Gudim defeated Kyle Kuschel 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 before Knight won 6-1, 6-4 in his match versus Henrich.
The win improved NWC to 13-10 overall on the 2013 season with just one match remaining as the UMAC Tournament championship trophy awaits Saturday's winner.
