MINNEAPOLIS – The Northwestern College women's tennis team was firing on all cylinders on Saturday afternoon, defeating North Central University 9-0 at the Baseline Center. The Purple and Gold dropped just three games in singles play en route to its third Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) win on the week.

The top of the singles lineup was rolling, as
Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) swept her Rams opponent in straight sets, while
Rachel Smith (St. Cloud, Minn./Bemidji) ended her match in the same fashion as Johnson. The rest of the lineup kept the momentum in the Eagles' favor, as
Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale),
Rachel Bostrom (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake),
Amber Gallaway (Annandale, Minn./Annandale), and
Aubree Else (Oskaloosa, Iowa/Pella Christian) all posted convincing victories.
The top two doubles matches mirrored the singles' results, as both Johnson and Johnson and the Smith/Bostrom duo forced shutout wins, 8-0. In the third contest,
Autumn Kampman (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) and
Aubree Else (Oskaloosa, Iowa/Pella Christian) fended off pressure from North Central and gained the upper hand, 8-4, leaving the Eagles up 9-0.
Northwestern (7-5 overall, 4-1 UMAC) will look to push its win streak to four matches on Tuesday as the squad will once again take on the Rams. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be held at Lifetime Fitness in Fridley.
