Women's Tennis wraps up regular season with 7-2 win over Cougars

MORRIS, Minn. – A 7-2 win over the University of Minnesota Morris on Monday afternoon gave Northwestern College an 8-2 finish to its 2013 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schedule while boosting the Eagles' overall win total to 11. NWC will enter Friday's first round of the UMAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face either Bethany Lutheran College or the Cougars from Morris at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Meet Results

Northwestern started Monday's match by winning two of the three doubles contests, including an 8-4 victory from the No. 1 pair of Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) over Morris' Abby Fragodt and Christina Mollan. Rachel Smith (St. Cloud, Minn./Bemidji) and Amber Gallaway (Annandale, Minn./Annandale), the Eagles' No. 2 duo, were also victorious in their doubles match as they posted an 8-6 win against Kayla Kraemer and Kayla Hegna.

Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) picked up the Purple and Gold's third point of the day with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 No. 2 singles win versus Mollan while Gallaway also earned a W against Hegna, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Autumn Kampman (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) got in on Monday's action as well with a rather easy 6-2, 6-1 victory over Rebecca Hansen in the No. 6 singles match.

With the regular season now complete, the Eagles will hit the practice court to prepare for Friday night's match, whose winner will earn a spot in the championship on Saturday.
