Men's Tennis winning streak comes to an end vs. St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. – Northwestern College's six-match winning streak came to an end on Saturday as the Eagles were swept 9-0 by the College of St. Scholastica. Despite taking a few matches down to the wire, NWC wasn't able to close the gap in the Purple and Gold's second-to-last Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match of the 2013 regular season.

Match Results

Northwestern's top player in David Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) had the best chance at tasting victory in the Arrowhead Tennis Center, but the senior lost to the Saints' Josh Stainer 6-7 (7-9), 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) in his No. 1 singles match after already having dropped a 9-8 (9-7) No. 1 doubles match with teammate Jimmy Ekman (River Falls, Wis./River Falls).

The remaining singles and doubles matches proved to be an even bigger struggle for NWC, who was without No. 2 singles player Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) on the day. Ekman put up a good fight in his No. 3 singles match, but fell short to Nick Lambrecht in 6-4, 6-4 scores. Philip Gudim (Becker, Minn./Home School) was the only other Eagle to take three or more games in a singles match.

Now 11-10 overall (7-2 UMAC), Northwestern will face the University of Minnesota Morris on Monday, April 29. The location for that match has yet to be determined based on facility availability in Morris with backup courts secured in the Twin Cities.
