LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Northwestern College women's tennis team dropped their first match in the team's last four contests on Saturday afternoon as the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse defeated the Eagles 7-2. Only the Eagles' Nos. 1 singles and doubles team claimed victories on the day.
NWC's No. 1 doubles team of
Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and
Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) won in 8-3 fashion, but the Eagles' Nos. 2 and 3 teams weren't able to match the wins.
Rachel Bostrom (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) and
Autumn Kampman (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) came close, but lost 8-6 in their No. 3 doubles contest.

Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) was again victorious in singles action as she defeated La Crosse's Abby Tressedder 6-2, 6-2. Things went downhill for NWC from there as the remaining five singles matches went La Crosse's way. Both Bostrom and Gallaway came closest to wins in their Nos. 3 and 4 singles contests. Bostrom lost to Bryanne Blanton 6-1, 6-3 while Gallaway dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match to Jenny Graham.
Now 7-6 on the season, Northwestern will have a busy schedule in the coming week with rescheduled matches from prior weather-related postponements. The Eagles will kick off the week with a Monday night match at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis against North Central University. NWC will then head out on the road for matches against Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. and the University of Minnesota Morris on Tuesday and Thursday with another away contest scheduled at Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday.
