Match Results

Northwestern's No. 1 doubles team of Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) hoped to set the tone for the rest of the day with their 9-7 win over Hillary Bungarden and Alexis Gunderson. Unfortunately for the Eagles, NWC's Rachel Bostrom (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) and Rachel Smith (St. Cloud, Minn./Bemidji) lost their No. 2 doubles match 8-6 before the No. 3 doubles combo of Amber Gallaway (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) and Aubree Else (Oskaloosa, Iowa/Pella Christian) dropped an 8-4 contest to Megan Lawrence and Alexa Herbst, sending the Purple and Gold into singles play with a 2-1 deficit.

Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) played well in her first set at No. 1 singles to win 6-2, but Bungarden rallied for a 6-2 second set victory to push the end result into a tiebreaker. Bungarden emerged victorious from the overtime segment at 10-5. While Johnson was on the court, so too was her teammate, No. 3 singles player Rachel Bostrom (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake), who found success against Gunderson 6-1, 6-1. Amber Gallaway (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) also hung in her No. 5 singles match to win 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

Now 4-5 overall this season, the Eagles will have the full Easter weekend off before hitting the road next Tuesday, April 2 when Northwestern faces Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn.
