Men's Tennis starts UMAC slate with near-perfect win

FRIDLEY, Minn. – Northwestern College started the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) portion of its schedule with a dominating 9-0 victory over Bethany Lutheran College. The win bumps the Eagles up to a 4-9 record in 2013.


Match Results

Four of the Eagles' six singles matches turned in 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in Northwestern's favor. No. 1 singles player David Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) started the trend of quick matches with a win over Brett Padfield. Agassi Mila (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) and Jimmy Ekman (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) followed suit at Nos. 3 and 4 singles with perfect scores against the Vikings' Jason Buechler and Tim Wildauer. Levi Busse (Amery, Wis./Amery) also picked up a sweep against Luke Riediger in the No. 6 singles spot.


Northwestern began the match with easy victories in all three doubles contests. Knight and Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) teamed up for an 8-0 win over Padfield and Troy Hoyard at No. 1, while Philip Gudim (Becker, Minn./Home School) and Levi Busse (Amery, Wis./Amery) earned an 8-0 sweep against Paul Riediger and Luke Meilner.


Next up for the Eagles is a match on Thursday that will feature tougher competition in the College of St. Scholastica. That contest will start at 12 p.m. on March 28 at Lifetime Fitness in Fridley.
