Women's Tennis roughed up by St. Thomas

ST. PAUL – The Northwestern College (Minn.) women's tennis team played its second match of the 2013 season on Tuesday night, dropping a 9-0 contest to the University of St. Thomas on the Tommies' home indoor courts in the Anderson Athletics and Recreation Center.

With the exception of one match, Northwestern was unable to win more than one game per set in singles action. Amber Gallaway (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) was that one exception as she took two games in each round from St. Thomas' Rachel Wright in a 6-2, 6-2 final at No. 5 singles. NWC freshman Rachel Bostrom (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) also gained a game in each of her sets against the Tommies' Bridget Noack in a 6-1, 6-1 No. 3 singles match.

St. Thomas, who moves to 4-0 on the season with the victory, took all three doubles matches in 8-1 fashion.

Now 0-2 early in the year, Northwestern will look for its first win of the 2013 campaign this weekend when the Eagles head south to Winona, Minn. to face Saint Mary's University on Saturday in a 1 p.m. start.
