Box Score ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The Northwestern College women's soccer team got back in the win column today after using three second-half goals to gain an advantage on Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponent Crown College on Saturday.
The Eagles first got on the scoreboard just after 23 minutes into the second half when
Lyssa Hester (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) scored her second goal of the season off a
Roxanne Holmberg (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) and
Francie Piche (East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks) assist. Crown responded with a goal of its own with less than five minutes remaining in the first period, tying the game going into halftime.
The second half featured an NWC offense that saw three different players score, as
Roxanne Holmberg (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) put the ball past the Crown keeper at the mark to give the visitors their second lead of the game at the 54:33 mark. Less than two minutes later the Purple and Gold had another offensive attack, this time led by
Sarah Scinto (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) off a
Lauren Cleope (Manila, Philippines/Faith Academy) pass.
Northwestern's final scoring drive ended with a
Sarah Gerten (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian) goal with 18:18 left on the clock, securing both a 4-1 lead and victory for the visiting team.
NWC totaled 28 shots, including 15 on goal in the 90 minutes of play, while also earning 13 corner kicks.
After Saturday's win, the Eagles improve to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in UMAC play. Northwestern's focus will now shift to next weekend's dual matchup with North Central University, with games taking place on both Friday and Saturday, October 5 and 6. North Central will play host for Friday's 2 p.m. contest, while the roles will be reversed for Saturday's 2:30 p.m. game at Reynolds Field.
