Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – In a battle between two of the top Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) teams, Northwestern came up just short to the University of Minnesota Morris on Friday, losing 1-0 in overtime.
Both teams remained scoreless in 90 minutes of play, with the Eagles posting four shots in comparison to the Cougars 13. NWC fended off seven shots on goal throughout regulation forcing the game into extra time.
Just 55 seconds into overtime Kelsi Kolle put her shot in the back of the net giving Minnesota Morris both the victory and a spot atop the UMAC standings.
The Purple and Gold matched the home team in corner kicks with each team tallying two. In addition,
Sarah Stenson (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) posted six saves on Friday, giving her a season total of 48.
The loss places Northwestern (3-5 overall, 3-2 UMAC) in a three-team tie for second place in conference standings, with Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther also owning 3-2 records.
After making the trip back from Morris, the Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they face Crown College at 12 p.m. Saturday in St. Bonifacius, Minn. Crown beat North Central 3-1 on Friday, improving their season record to 3-5-1 overall, and 1-3-1 in UMAC play.
