DULUTH, Minn. – After starting Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play 3-0, the Northwestern College women's soccer team was unable to attach another win to their conference record after coming up short to the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday. The Saints used a goal in each half to post a 2-0 win over the Eagles while outshooting the visitors 27-4.
NWC's backfield withstood seven St. Scholastica shots before Shannon Carlson scored in the 34th minute, giving the Saints a 1-0 advantage that stood until the second half. The home team on the scoreboard kept attacking and found the back of the net for the second time with just under 25 minutes remaining in the game.
The Eagles were unable to reciprocate St. Scholastica's offense and remained scoreless in the 90 minutes of play. Defensively,
Sarah Stenson (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) tallied 12 saves on the afternoon, an even six in each half.
After a week of practice, Northwestern (3-4-0 overall, 3-1-0 UMAC) will once again hit the road for a conference contest against the University of Minnesota Morris next Friday, September 28. A 2 p.m. kickoff time is scheduled for Friday's game. The next day, the Eagles will conclude the weekend with a trip to Saint Bonifacius, Minn. for a 12 p.m. matchup against Crown College.
Both Minnesota Morris and NWC are currently among four teams tied atop the UMAC standings with conference records of 3-1-0 after the Cougars came up short in a loss to Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday.
