DULUTH, Minn. -- Arriving on a hopeful note, the Northwestern College men's tennis team struggled to defeat its UMAC foe, the College of St. Scholastica, this past Saturday. The Eagles fell 7-2 to the Saints.
Northwestern's only win of the day in doubles play came from
David Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and
Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) at No. 1 doubles, who handed their St. Scholastica opponents an 8-4 loss.
In singles action, Northwestern's No. 3 singles player,
Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) was the only Eagle to earn a win on the day. Blancke defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-2. Kauss, Northwestern's No. 2 singles player, put up a fight in his match and had a huge comeback in his second set against his opponent, but eventually fell in a third set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
After a brief break, Northwestern will head back on the road to finish up their regular season play as they take on Martin Luther in New Ulm this Tuesday at 3 p.m. With an 11-10 overall record, the Eagles hope to clinch their last regular season win against Martin Luther and go into the UMAC Conference Tournament this Friday and Saturday with the hopes of becoming back-to-back UMAC Tournament Champions. The UMAC Conference Tournament kicks off at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center at 6 p.m. on Friday, with the Eagles playing at approximately 8:30 p.m.
