Women's tennis delivers 8-1 victory over Minnesota Morris

FRIDLEY, Minn. – Northwestern College took an 8-1 victory on Thursday against the University of Minnesota Morris en route to the team's straight UMAC win.

The Eagles'  three doubles teams did their jobs. The Nos. 1 and 3 doubles squads both won 8-5, while the No. 2 doubles team of Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) took an 8-3 victory over Preya Chunkapura and Emma Strachan.

In singles matches, all of Northwestern's Nos. 2-6 players won their individual contests. Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) endured a long match at No. 2 singles to defeat Christina Mollan 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-8). Knight did well at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win, while Fiecke pulled a 6-0, 6-2 victory over the Cougars' Rebecca Hanson. Rachel Smith (St. Cloud, Minn./Bemidji) earned a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.

Now 6-8 overall, NWC has won three straight matches and won't play again for nearly a week. The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, April 11, when they host Martin Luther College at Lifetime Fitness for another 3 p.m. match.
