FRIDLEY, Minn. – The Northwestern College men's tennis team won its third straight 9-0 match on Thursday, defeating the University of Minnesota Morris to improve to 3-0 in UMAC play this season. Of the nine singles and doubles matches, the Eagles swept three of them.
Northwestern's No. 1 doubles team of
David Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and
Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) started the Eagles off on the right foot, taking down the Cougars' Dakota Frazier and Caleb Power 8-0.
Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and
Jimmy Ekman (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) took care of business at No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 win in their match, while
Agassi Mila (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) and
Collin Henslee (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Christian) earned another sweep for NWC, defeating Minnesota Morris' Marco Riley and Tyler Ulsby 8-0 to finish doubles play.
In singles action, Knight won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, while Kauss handled Power 6-0, 6-1. Blancke and Ekman both blanked their opponents, beating the Cougars' McCormick and Benner 6-0, 6-0.
Philip Gudim (Becker, Minn./Home School) also picked up a set sweep as he defeated Erik Vergiels 6-0,6-2 in No. 5 singles.
Northwestern improved its season record to 6-7 overall, and will take a long weekend off before returning to the court on Wednesday, March 11 when the Eagles host Martin Luther College at Lifetime Fitness at 3 p.m.
