Women's Tennis earns 9-0 win over Bethany Lutheran

FRIDLEY, Minn. -- The Northwestern College swept its second straight UMAC opponent on Tuesday, handing Bethany Lutheran College a 9-0 loss to improve to 2-0 in the conference season.

Northwestern started off right in doubles action, winning all three matches. Amber Gallaway (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) and Rachel Smith (St. Cloud, Minn./Bemidji) teamed up for an 8-1 victory over the Vikings' Rebecca Neumann and Marta Faugstad at No. 3 doubles, while Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Chelsey Fiecke (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) were victorious at No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 victory over Alyssa Rau and Rebecca Grove. Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) got over the hump at the right time in No. 1 doubles, beating Bethany's Rebecca Kopacek and Brook Osmundson 8-6.

Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Knight swept their singles matches at Nos. 1 and 3 singles by 6-0, 6-0 scores, while Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) was right behind with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Osmundson at No. 2 singles. Gallaway, Smith and Fiecke all picked up wins as well, allowing the Eagles to shift their attention to their next match on Thursday.

Northwestern, now 5-8 overall, will welcome the University of Minnesota Morris to Lifetime Fitness in Fridley for a 3 p.m. match on Thursday.
