Long drive home: Women's Tennis falls to Concordia-Moorhead 6-3

Match Results

FARGO, N.D. -- A long drive and a venue change didn't help Northwestern College on Saturday, who dropped its third straight match of the week in a 6-3 loss to Concordia College-Moorhead.

NWC took just one of the three doubles matches, as Amy Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and Autumn Kampman (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) defeated Concordia's Olivia DeLeon and Kaitlyn Davies 8-5 in the No. 3 match. The Eagles' No. 1 doubles pair of Megan Johnson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) nearly won their match, but ultimately fell to Andrea Rognlien and Julie Olson 9-7.

Knight was one of two Northwestern women's players to win a singles match, as the senior came back to defeat Kelly Kalvoda 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 11-9 at No. 4 singles. Rachel Smith (St. Cloud, Minn./Bemidji) also won in her No. 5 singles match, defeating Laura Hintzen 6-4, 6-4. Kelly Johnson (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) suffered another close defeat at No. 2 singles as she lost to Olson 6-4, 5-7, 10-8.

The Eagles will head into next week's matches with an 8-11 overall record. NWC will play three UMAC contests in four days, with the first match taking place on Wednesday, April 25 against the University of Minnesota Morris in Morris. That match will begin at 3 p.m.
