FARGO, N.D. -- After a long drive and a change of venue, the Northwestern College men's tennis team lost to Concordia College-Moorhead 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. Poor weather conditions outside forced the meet to an indoor facility across the Red River into Fargo.
The No. 1 combo of
David Knight (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) and
Caleb Kauss (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) was the only doubles team to earn a win for the Eagles, putting the Purple and Gold in 2-1 deficit to start singles play. Kauss did his part at No. 2 singles, earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Brian Olson while Knight lost a heartbreaker to Concordia's Devin Larson 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 10-7 at No. 1 singles.
No. 3 singles player
Keagan Blancke (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) was the only other NWC team member to win on the day as the junior posted what seemed to be an everlasting 2-6, 7-6, 17-15 win against Chad Smith.
Now 9-9 on the year, Northwestern will regroup before playing three matches next week, all of which are on the road. The Eagles will continue UMAC play on Wednesday, April 25 when they head west to face the University of Minnesota Morris in Morris for a 3 p.m. match.
